The Victoria and Albert Museum, commonly known as the V&A, is a museum of art and design in London, England. It is named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. It was founded in 1852 and has since become one of the world’s leading museums of art, design and performance. The V&A is a leading museum of art and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.3 million objects that span over 5,000 years of human creativity.
The museum holds some of the world’s most important collections of art, including medieval and Renaissance artifacts, costume and textiles, sculpture, prints and drawings, furniture and design. The V&A also hosts a wide range of special exhibitions, including fashion and performance events, as well as educational and community activities. The museum is located in South Kensington, London, and is housed in a series of historic buildings, including the former home of the Duke of Buckingham and the original museum building, a Grade I listed structure designed by Sir Henry Cole.
